About
The David Collection in Copenhagen is a distinguished museum showcasing one of the most comprehensive Islamic art collections in the Western world. Housed in a historic 19th-century townhouse, it also features European 18th-century art and Danish early modern works. With free admission and immersive exhibitions, it offers a serene cultural experience in the heart of the city.
Established in 1948 by Danish lawyer and art collector Christian Ludvig David, The David Collection is a testament to his passion for preserving and sharing art. Located at Kronprinsessegade 30, the museum occupies the former residence of its founder, a building rich in history and architectural charm. The museum's Islamic art collection is among the most significant in Scandinavia, spanning from the 8th to the 19th century and encompassing a vast geographical area from Spain to China. Complementing this, the European 18th-century collection offers exquisite examples of furniture, porcelain, and paintings, while the Danish early modern art section presents works from 1880 to 1950, including pieces by renowned artists like Vilhelm Hammershøi. Visitors can enjoy free entry to all exhibitions and collections, with guided tours available on weekends and Wednesdays. The museum is conveniently located near King's Garden and is easily accessible by public transportation.
