About
Perhaps Copenhagen’s most iconic landmark, The Little Mermaid statue sits gracefully on a rock by the Langelinie promenade, gazing wistfully toward the harbor. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale, the bronze sculpture was created in 1913 by Edvard Eriksen.
Though modest in size—only about 1.25 meters tall—it holds immense symbolic value, representing the spirit of Copenhagen and its maritime heritage. Many visitors are surprised by its small stature, yet that intimate scale is part of its charm. Early mornings or sunsets are the best times to visit, when the light reflects beautifully on the water and the crowds are thinner. While you’re there, stroll along the waterfront to soak in views of the harbor, passing elegant old warehouses and modern architecture that capture the city’s balance between tradition and innovation.
